We have been working at Media Movers to provide products and services that reduce our carbon emissions and leave as low an eco-footprint as possible. This has been difficult in itself in any industry but in one that values appearance of product – we are in an extremely competitive industry where appearance of product can make a huge difference in the sale potential to any of our customers in their market.
At Media Movers we have been designing and marketing more products that were probably less mainstream but are gaining momentum through our activities – these products have reduced carbon footprint. Products that we designed, some are registered designs and trademarked, and marketed include:
Traypacks (Digipacks), utilising cardboard rather than plastic cases and largely reducing the plastic used in packaging
Double Panelled Sleeves with pockets or other disk holders rather than jewelcases
Digital Media Mailers
Zipper Mailers for safe transit of disks through Aust Post that also deliver a “WOW” to end customer
At no stage in the development of our products have we taken a backward step in quality in our quest to reduce carbon footprints, in fact our products are at the premium end of the market in appearance without the high presumed cost of that premium tag. A win for all – great products without the high price tag and a reduction in carbon footprint.
Summary of our Product Design in the market is:
Create great looking products
Design products that have reduce eco-footprints
Making the above in affordable fashion
Further than the design of better looking and eco friendly products Media Movers have also been investing in the components that make up our product. Again our aim has been to source component product that reduce carbon footprint, does not increase and in fact may decrease costs and also does not reduce the appearance of product.
To date we have introduced to our product offering:
Recycled boards
Recycled plastic trays
Vegetable and soy based inks
Media Movers have introduced the opportunity to select recycled (>80% post consumer waste) for selected 200gsm and 300gsm paper board products. This is available for traypacks (Digipacks), cardboard sleeves and wallets as well as mailers that we now supply, design and produce – these are all starting our eco-range of products.
Media Movers have experimented successfully in re-cycling production waste clear plastic into full production re-cycled clear trays for Traypacks – black trays are also available and have been for a while but the clear alternative adds to the product appearance.
Media Movers have been experimenting with vegetable based inks, these are available for all print products but at this stage have a high price tag on them. We will continue to offer this product whilst working to reduce the cost in the long term. The quality of these inks are extremely impressive.
Media Movers is positioned that it both sells and sources product globally. To that avail we have good vision of product enhancements globally and can quickly bring benefits from those enhancements quickly to our Australian product. Our pro-activity in reducing the carbon footprint in our market have been the result of planned vision that all is possible if we use innovation, available internal and external, to achieve marketable solutions to attack these issues.
Our journey is not yet ended, we believe there are great opportunities to further reduce carbon footprint in our industry and to do that in economic ways. Media Movers plans to continue leadership in this endeavour in our industry and request you keep abreast of some wonderful developments that will be announced in the not distant future.
